Box Score FAYETTE, Mo. - Harris-Stowe State University men's basketball fell 101-89 on Saturday afternoon to Central Methodist University. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 0-1 on the season while the Eagles improve to 1-0 on the season.
The game would start off quick with both teams trading buckets early and often as the Eagles held an 11-9 lead just over three minutes into the game. After a three from senior guard
Freddy Reeves Jr. (Minneapolis, Minn./Chardon State) would cut the Eagles lead to 19-18 the Eagles would go on an 8-2 run to push the lead to 27-20. After another three from Reeves and from senior guard
Seth Chargois (Tulsa, Okla./Johnson Community College) the Eagles lead was 28-26.Â
After a 12-10 run the Eagles lead by four at 40-36. The Hornets would cut the lead to 45-41 before an 8-0 run to push the lead to 53-41. Senior guard
Bennie Amos III (New Orleans, La./Delgado Community College) would make three free throws, a bucket from junior forward
Koran Johnson (St. Louis, Mo.) and a three from Chargois would help the Hornets finish the half on an 8-0 run themselves to cut the lead to 53-49 going into the half.
A 10-3 run by the Eagles to open the second half would push their lead to 63-52 and force a timeout by the Hornets. After the timeout, Chargois would hit two threes on back-to-back possessions and two made free throws from senior forward
Jermarco Burse (Annapolis, Mo./Truman State) would fuel an 8-2 run to cut the Eagles lead to 65-60. A 10-5 run by the Eagles would push the lead to 75-65 with just under 12 minutes to play.
The Hornets could only get to within 10 points over the final 11:50 to play.
The Hornets would go 30-69 (43.5 percent) from the field, 10-26 (38.5 percent from three) and 19-25 (76 percent from the free throw line) for the game. Amos III would score a game-high 24 points, while Chargois added 22 points and Reeves Jr. added 16 points off the bench. Reeves Jr. would record a team-high six rebounds and Amos III would record a team-high six assists.
The Hornets are back in action on Wednesday, October 30th for their home opener at 7 pm at Emerson Perfomance Center as they host Philander Smith College. Wednesday's game will be a white out theme.
