Box Score 2 OWENSBORO, Ky. - Harris-Stowe State University's baseball team fell in both games of the doubleheader against Brescia University. The Hornets fell 12-5 in game one and 8-7 in game two as their record dropped to 1-9 on the season while Brescia improved to 6-17 on the season.
In game one, Brescia jumped out to a 2-0 nothing lead on RBI doubles from Gavin Huebner and Joshua Cossitt. In the third, junior outfielder
Za'Maree Tillman (Bakersfield, Calif.) cut the lead to 2-1 with a solo homerun to left. Brescia would regain their two run lead with a RBI single from Hugo Benoit.
The Hornets would take the lead 4-3 after a three run top of the fourth inning. An error that allowed senior outfielder
Julian Cintel (St. Louis, Mo.) to score cut the lead to 3-2 before junior outfielder
Dwayne Daggs (St. Louis, Mo.) reached on an error that scored senior outfielder
Xavier Fuller (Memphis, Tenn.) to tie the game at 3-3. Junior shortstop
Austin Martin (Roxana, Ill.) would give the Hornets the lead with an infield single to short as sophomore infielder
Cam Pratt (Anderson, Ind.) would cross home.Â
After nine runs scored in the fifth and sixth for Brescia the Hornets would tally one more run in the seventh as Fuller walked with the bases loaded scoring junior third baseman
Tyson Dent (Memphis, Tenn.). Sophomore pitcher
Robbie Gerber (St. Louis, Mo) got the start in game one allowing just three runs on seven hits.
Game two started with Brescia scoring a run in the first before the Hornets tied the game with senior infielder
Devin Rader (Dallas, Tex./Cedar Hill) delivered a RBI double that would score pitcher
Dakota Gaines (Jay, Okla.) as Gaines was running for senior catcher
Austin Toler (Highland, Ill./Highland). The Hornets would take a 5-2 lead with a four run top of the third with a RBI single from Dent, a two run double from Cintel and then scoring on an error after Rader reached on that very error.
Brescia would battle back and take a 6-5 lead into the top of the sixth before a triple from Cintel scored Dent and Toler would drive in Cintel with a sacrifice fly. Brescia would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth on an error before Huebner would give himself the win on the mound with a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the seventh.
Sophomore
Anderson Dotolo (Tulsa, Okla.) would start game two going two innings giving up two runs. Sophomore
Benjamin Derry (Kansas City, Mo./Oak Park) would pitch two innings while giving up four runs with two being earned and sophomore pitcher
Sam Britton (St. Louis, Mo.) would toss the final 2.1 innings giving up two runs with one being earned.
Cintel went 4-for-5 at the plate with a two doubles, a triple, three runs scored, three runs batted in and a stolen base.
The Hornets are back in action on Saturday, March 16 as they open American Midwest Conference play with a doubleheader against Columbia College at Stars Park with game one starting at noon.
