Box Score 2 MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Harris-Stowe State University baseball closed out their spring break with a doubleheader loss to Florida Memorial University as the Hornets fell in game one 10-5 and 10-1 in a seven inning game two. The Hornets fall to 1-7 on the season while the Lions improve to 10-5 on the year.
In game one the Lions jumped out to 8-0 lead after five innings before the Hornets got on the board in the sixth. Senior outfielder
Julian Cintel (St. Louis, Mo.) got the Hornets on the board with a fielder's choice and an error allowed junior third baseman
Tyson Dent (Memphis, Tenn.) to score. The Hornets would add two more runs in the seventh with a RBI double to left center off the bat of junior shortstop
Austin Martin (Roxana, Ill.) that brought in sophomore infielder
Cam Pratt (Anderson, Ind.). Dent would drive in the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to left that scored junior outfielder
Dwayne Daggs (St. Louis, Mo.) to cut the lead to 8-3.
The Lions would add two run in the eight to push their lead to 10-3 before the Hornets scored two more runs in the ninth. Martin would score on a wild pitch in the inning and Cintel would single to center driving in Dent. Sophomore pitcher and first baseman
Logan Schwerdt (Saint Peters, Mo.) got the loss after throwing 5.1 innings with sophomore pitcher
Anderson Dotolo (Tulsa, Okla.) throwing 2.2 innings in relief in game one. Dent would go 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and the RBI in the seventh.
Lions outfielder Raymond Rivera would hit for the cycle in the game while Carlos Solano tossed six innings to pick up his first win of the season for the Lions.
In game two, the Lions offense got started early with three runs in the first against Hornets starter sophomore pitcher
Robbie Gerber (St. Louis, Mo.) before adding one four more runs in the third inning, two in the fifth and one in the sixth. The lone run for the Hornets came off the bat of freshman first baseman
Carter Henderson (San Diego, Calif.) with a single to right that scored sophomore outfielder
Quintaviyion Farmer (East St. Louis, Ill.).Â
On the day, Dent went 5-for-6 with two runs scored and a run batted in.
The Lions would get six innings in game two from their starter Kyle Morrison to pick up his second win of the year as Jacob Williams would pitch the final inning for the Lions.
The Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, March 12th in Owensboro, Ky. against Brescia University as game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 pm and game two at 3:45 pm.
