EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Harris-Stowe State University women's track and field team competed at the American Midwest Conference Outdoor Championship on Wednesday and Thursday at Ralph Korte Stadium on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The Lady Hornets finished eighth with 30 points.
Junior sprinter
Alicia Robinson (Grand Rapids, Mich.) ran 12.49 seconds to finish second in the semifinals of the 100-meter dash and then ran 12.62 in the finals to finish second. In the 200, Robinson ran 25.15 in the semis to finish first and 25.41 in the finals to finish second. Robinson recorded a leap of 9.60 meters (31-6) in the triple jump and 4.46 meters (14-7.75) in the long jump.
Senior thrower
Damajee Brown finished third in the hammer throw with a throw of 43.47 meters (142-8) to finish third. Brown also recorded a throw of 24.11 meters (79-1) in the discus and a personal record throw of 7.65 meters (25-1.25) in the shot put.
Senior sprinter and thrower
Shamari Long (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a personal record throw of 35.20 meters (115-6) in the javelin to finish third. In the 100 semis, Long ran a time of 13.06 to finish seventh and a time of 13.20 in the finals of the 100 to finish seventh. Long ran a personal best in the 200 in 27.30 seconds. Long also recorded a throw of 8.83 meters (28-11.75) in the shot put.
Freshman thrower
Saniya Thomas recorded a personal best throw of 9.29 meters (30-5.75) in the shot put. A throw of 17.64 meters (57-11) in the javelin and a throw of 34.43 meters (112-11) in the hammer throw.
Junior thrower
Ramaya Atuatasi (San Diego, Calif./Hoover) recorded a throw of 33.59 meters (110-3) in the hammer throw and a throw of 22.95 meters (75-4) in the discus.
The Hornets return to action next Friday and Saturday, May 9th and 10th at the last chance meet hosted by the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
